Evaluation (Dental)
A dental evaluation is a systematic assessment of the mouth and related structures to determine current oral health, identify problems and establish priorities for care. It commonly involves taking a medical and dental history, a visual inspection of teeth and soft tissues, periodontal probing, assessment of bite and jaw function, and may include radiographs or other diagnostic tests to detect issues not visible to the eye.
The findings from an evaluation form the basis of a diagnosis and a tailored treatment plan, which can range from preventive advice to restorative or surgical procedures and referrals when necessary. Patients can expect the appointment to be largely non-invasive, with the clinician explaining recommended next steps, potential risks and preventive measures to help maintain or improve oral health.
