CBCT (Cone Beam CT)
CBCT (Cone Beam CT) is a specialised type of x-ray imaging that produces three-dimensional images of the teeth, jaws, airway, sinuses and surrounding bone. Unlike traditional two-dimensional dental x-rays, CBCT captures a volumetric dataset that clinicians can view from multiple angles to assess anatomy and pathology in greater detail.
Common uses include treatment planning for dental implants, evaluating complex root canal systems, assessing impacted teeth and planning oral surgery or sinus lifts; the scan is quick, usually performed while the patient sits or stands and involves a relatively low dose of radiation compared with conventional medical CT. The resulting images are reconstructed into slices and 3D views that help clinicians measure bone dimensions, locate nerves and detect lesions before deciding on the best treatment approach.
