Dental Adhesive
Dental adhesive refers to materials and systems used to create a durable bond between dental tissues and restorative materials such as composite fillings, crowns, veneers or orthodontic brackets. These adhesives can be resin-based, glass ionomer-based or hybrid formulations, and they work by creating mechanical and chemical adhesion to enamel and dentine after appropriate surface preparation.
Application usually involves cleaning and preparing the tooth surface, an etching or conditioning step, then applying a primer and bonding agent before placing the restoration, often followed by light curing. The choice of adhesive affects retention, sensitivity, resistance to leakage and compatibility with different restorative materials, so moisture control and following clinical instructions are important for long-term success.
