Digital Smile Design

Digital Smile Design (DSD) is a digital workflow that combines photographs, videos, intraoral scans and specialised software to analyse facial and dental proportions and plan cosmetic dental treatments. The process produces a visual mock-up of proposed changes so patients and dentists can preview outcomes, adjust shapes, shade and alignment, and improve communication before any irreversible treatment begins.

DSD can support treatments such as veneers, crowns, orthodontics and whitening by providing precise templates for restorative or surgical work and may reduce surprises during treatment. While it enhances planning and shared decision-making, final results depend on clinical factors and may require diagnostic models, trial restorations and careful coordination between dentist, technician and patient.
