Immediate Load Implant
Immediate Load Implant describes a treatment approach in which a dental implant is placed into the jaw and a temporary or definitive prosthetic tooth is attached very soon after surgery, often on the same day or within 48 hours. The procedure aims to restore function and appearance quickly, but it relies on good primary stability of the implant at placement, precise surgical technique and thorough preoperative planning including imaging to ensure the implant can withstand early loading.
This option can benefit patients who prioritise faster restoration, but it is not suitable for everyone; factors such as bone quality and quantity, overall health, smoking status and bite forces affect success. To protect healing, clinicians frequently use provisional restorations that reduce or avoid contact with opposing teeth until osseointegration is established, and they will discuss the relative risks and alternatives compared with conventional delayed loading.
