Molar
Molars are the large, flat teeth located at the back of the mouth designed primarily for grinding and breaking down food. In adults there are usually three molars on each side of the upper and lower jaws (including the third molars commonly called wisdom teeth), while children have primary molar teeth that are later replaced by permanent premolars.
Structurally molars have a broad chewing surface with multiple cusps and usually two or three roots, covered by enamel and containing dentin and dental pulp; this makes them strong but also susceptible to deep decay, cracks and infections. Common problems affecting molars include cavities, fractured teeth and impacted wisdom teeth, and treatment can range from fillings and crowns to root canal treatment, extraction and replacement options such as dental implants or bridges.
